I’ve taken in all the great advice from friends on Facebook and my blog comments about how to best handle the imminent Great Binky Kibosh and have come up with an amalgam of the various ideas. The big day is only two days away so I have had put my action plan in motion and begun laying the ground work.
Though I originally wasn’t a fan of calling in the Binky Fairy, I decided to contact her, just to see what she had to say. When I told Lily about my conversation with “Blair the Binky Fairy” (thanks Mel for the tip on naming the fairy–I think I got Blair from your name, Linda) Lil’s face actually lit up a little. She smiled and said, “The Binky Fairy?” I said, “Yes, her name is Blair. I spoke to her yesterday and she has asked us to wrap up all the binkies and send them to her, with the exception of ONE”. I told her that Blair has given Lily permission to keep one binky that she can keep for SLEEP ONLY. It must stay in her crib at all times. And once it goes missing or breaks, then that’s the last of the binkies.
It’s a fairly elaborate plan, but Lily is seemingly excited to wrap up the binkies tomorrow and mail them off. I told her that Blair gives them to other kids who don’t have binkies and she kinda likes that idea.
As we read our bedtime books tonight, sans binky, I was talking about how nice Blair is and how she is really proud of what a big girl Lily is becoming. I said, “and just think of all the big girl things you’ll get to start doing that are WAY better than having a binky.”
She looked at my face, and focused in on my eyes. Then she said, “Yah, like wearing make-up.”
I have a feeling there will come a day when I will be WISHING the only battle I had to fight was about binkies!

We are planning something similar for our girl, who will turn 4 in December. She has a cloth rather than a binkie. She came to us with this habit and we haven’t had the heart to break her of it. I hope Blair does her job properly.
I’m catching up on a few days worth of missed posts – and holy poop stain I totally laughed out loud at your translation of your daughter’s pop hop lyrics. I had to put the kibosh on listening to pop songs with my girls in general – cuz they started singing stuff like "my humps" and "oops i did it again" – and who knew where they were going to randomly bust those lyrics out in public (read: Target).
The binky fairy idea is TOTALLY cool! I got lucky with my last two girls, they didn’t really want the darn thing. I wish I would have known about the Binky Fairy when my oldest was a baby though.
And now I’m off to watch your new VLOG, yayyyyy!!!
Ha! Now I’m picturing the binky fairy with a green face and spinning head! :D Glad I could help.
