lulabellez: what kind of fairy is merry berry?

My Monday Momsense vlog this week discusses my knack for picking my own nicknames and/or thinking I am cool enough to call myself by said nickname.

One of my nicknames that I forgot to mention in the video was the name my dad used to call me when I was a young girl: Mary Berry. I think he would even go so far as to say Mary Berry Boo when he was really feeling jovial. Now that he is gone, that name has a sentimental ring to it. I can hear his voice say it as he would get home from work and call to me from the base of the staircase. Though it is one nickname I have never actually referred to myself as, it is one of my favorites.

Ironically, I recently discovered that one of my neighbors just wrote a children’s book called “What Kind of Fairy if Merry Berry?” Say what? How cool is that? The book was just published by Chronicle Books and now she has an entire toy line for little girls called Lulabellez™, based on Merry Berry and her fairy friends.

I immediately asked her all about it and she quite generously brought over a signed copy of the book and two of the Lulabellez costumes for Lily & Lexi to have. They have not taken off their costumes, except to sleep, shower, and eat, which I MADE them do against their will because I didn’t want to get food all over the new costumes.

Here is a video of my girls in their Lulabellez costumes (pay no attention to the inflection in my voice when Lily talks about the cat):

Lulabellez are magical fairies that live in Lulaland. There are twelve fairies all together, though only four of them make an appearance in the first book. All of the fairies have special talents and they do good deeds to earn their fairy wings. Here’s a peek inside the book:

In case you’re not sold yet, here are

Ten Reasons You and Your Daughter(s) are Going to LOVE Lulabellez:

1)   What young girl doesn’t love fluffy dresses, fairy wings and glittery goodness?

2)   The characters, storyline and costumes are endearing and DARLING!

3)   The creator, author, designer, Lindsey Renee, is one of the sweetest people you could ever know. Not icky, gooey sweet, but a genuinely kind person. Oh, and lovely, down-to-earth, fashionable and beyond creative too. This entire product line is brainchild, from conception to finished product.

4)   There is positive messaging behind the storylines and the characters like spreading joy through acts of kindness, building self-esteem and that “Everyone has a gift to share.”

5)   Lulabellez encourages kids to do good deeds ad to discover their own hidden talents.

6)   The artwork is incredibly detailed. Lindsey’s design and craftsmanship is beyond impressive. Especially to someone like me whose art skills are limited to hearts, stars, flowers and rainbows.

7)   The Lulabellez website (Lulabellez.com), once it is up later this week, will have FREE craft downloads that you can do with your kids (wait til you see her creative craft ideas—adorable!)

8)   The products are WAY affordable (only $19.99 for the costumes which look like the costumes you’d buy at the Disney Store).

9)   They’re an alternative to the other girlie books/product lines that we’re all so sick of seeing.

10) The first book is about “Merry Berry” AND cupcakes, ‘nuff said.

I am beyond excited for this new product line of girl’s books, toys, dolls and costumes to launch. And even more exciting is that I have a an awesome giveaway for one lucky Mama Mary Show reader. This Lulabellez prize pack includes

  • One signed copy of What Kind of Fairy is Merry Berry

Disclaimer: Like a Proud Mary, I am biased a teeny bit because Lindsey is my neighbor, plus she has given me some product for free and has hired me to do some social media work for her. But none of those factors influence my kids and by proof of the video, they are 100% in love with Lulabellez.

UPDATE: Winner of the Lulabellez giveaway is Chandra! Congrats girl! Olivia will love her Lulabellez products.

Liv’s special talent is her lack of fear. I know most kids her age have a lack of fear, but she doesn’t hesitate to try anything new and she always does it with a smile on her face and then says “let’s do it again”. I saw her eyes light up at the carnival we went to recently when we got near the roller coaster. Thank goodness she’s still not tall enough. God help me when she’s a teenager. :) AND she love’s fairies – so I’m sure she will love Lullabellez. Can’t wait to check it out.

Darling! Moll’s special talent? She has many! One is waiting me out when she’s mad. She can hold out for hours. I find that impressive. :) But a serious one is her courage. She’s fearless and brave. I wish I had that! These are darling, by the way, and right up Molley’s alley. She’s such a girly girl when it comes to clothes and her hair (and a total tomboy with her activities – I love it)!

Lindsey is one of my best friends from childhood. She has always been amazingly talented. My daughter LOVES her book and has been eyeing the costumes.

My daughter Leah’s talent is that of reading comprehension. At three she is OBSESSED with books. She will ask to be read to over and over again. She only needs to be read a book once to know the entire thing. I can’t wait to see what her love of books brings her.

Although my daughter, Lilly, is only a year a half, she already loves to play dress up. The first thing she does when she wakes up in the morning is put on mommy’s shoes :) But, not only does she love to play dress up, she LOVES to dance! This girl has moves like I have never seen! She will dance & bounce to anything (i.e.the sound of her dog lapping up water, the sound of me whisking eggs, the noise from our printer, the list goes on…). With Lilly’s joy of dressing up, dancing and running around in tu-tu’s, I know she is going to be huge fan of Lulabellez!

SugarPlum has many talents, but the one that is most prominent these days is DANCING…there doesn’t have to be any sound for her to start shaking and grooving, she seems to have an internal band playing 24/7, just for her!

“Yes, Snow White, you may come into my kitchen.” chirps Nevada. Every morning our day starts with the girls talking away. Josie just coos and awes, but Nevada is living in a wonderful pretend world! Lulabellez looks like the perfect addition to any girl’s dress up collection.

    Joanne says:

Trulie bug loves many things including dressing up and dancing, but her true talent is her singing…she sings ALL the time about anything….she makes up songs about what she is doing right at that moment and will just sing away……she is quite the entertainer..

    Laura F says:

Bella is definitely an ART fairy. She cranks out drawings so fast that I finally bought a CASE of paper at costco. I can’t keep up with the girl and my printer/fax machine paper tray is forever empty due to my little paper swiper. Seriously, I need to enroll her in art classes.

I already liked you on FB so I cant do it again….but another talent of Trulie’s is her innate ability to drive her brothers crazy at the drop of a hat. Its amazing.

This is darling, I can’t wait to check out the book. Sienna is just starting to get into the princess craze and has a few of the costumes. I know she will love Lullabellez. Sienna’s talent is her ability to entertain herself. You can put just about anything in front of her and she can do something with it.

The characters are extremely creative and oh-so-adorable! I love that each Lulabellez has a distinct quirk. Merry Berry doesn’t like dirty dishes, Jada Pop is confident, and Nut Meg believes in being “as you are, because that’s perfect”. Really positive message… what’s not to love?

My Emma’s special talent is entertaining her 10 mo old twin bro and sis…by pretending to fall down and tell them “Ow! I hurt my poopy!”. She loves to make them laugh, and if she has to throw in a potty-joke once in a while, by gum, she’ll do it!

I swear my daughter, Coco – 4 yrs, came out of my womb with an acceptance speech ready for her future Academy Award. She loves people and if there is anything even close to resembling a stage, my daughter will give the performance of a lifetime whether it be in the Kids Department of Barnes & Noble, including herself on stage at The American Girl Store Cafe, joining the band at every wedding we’ve been at or climbing her way on stage with The Wonder Pets & Yo Gabba Gabba at Nokia Live. While as her mom I’m 1% MORTIFIED…I’m also 99% SUPER PROUD – that’s MY kid!!!
