an inch of sunshine

Last week I discovered a heartbreaking story on line about a fellow blogger, Anna See of An Inch of Gray, who lost her son, Jack, in a terrible flood in early September. I stopped whatever project I was working on and I became engrossed in Anna’s incredibly poignant and beautifully written posts about her son.

I have never met this women, but I know her. There is something about the story, the look in her son’s eyes in the photo, and the way Anna writes that drew me in and made me feel connected to her.

Anna’s harrowing account about what happened the night of the accident can be found here. And this post, about a mundane trip to Walmart where she bought a “bottle of Old Spice ‘Pure Sport’ for a kid who can no longer wear it,” was almost more difficult to read because it got the very heart of being a mom and the everyday things we do with and for our kids.

Be prepared to bawl your head off.

I have not stopped crying or praying or thinking about this family since I first discovered this story. Nor have I stopped hugging my kids.

Though this story is painfully tragic, there is a light peeking through this dark curtain of grief for the See family.

A few weeks ago, Margaret, Jack’s little sister wrote out a grocery list. On it she listed a few standard food items followed by “Private concert from Justin Bieber ” and last on the list was one word, “Jack.”

Ever since the grocery list went up, a social media mission has begun in hopes of making this little girl’s dream of meeting Justin Bieber come true.

Here is where you come in:

If you are a Facebooker, please LIKE the Help Margaret Meet Justin Bieber page and post it on your wall.

If you are tweeter, please tweet with the hashtag #liftmargaret and follow @JBLiftMargaret and tweet out the Facebook page or Anna’s Grocery List post. http://aninchofgray.blogspot.com/2011/10/if-it-could-be-so.html

If you are a blogger, blog about it.

And most importantly, if you have connections to media or celebrities, or even the Biebs himself, this is the time to call in a favor.

I hope we can all collectively give the See family an inch of sunshine.
