duran duran all you need is now tour

This past Saturday night I attended the Duran Duran “All You Need is Now” concert at Harrah’s Rincon Casino. Twenty-seven years have passed since I last saw Duran Duran in concert at the San Diego Sports Arena for my very first concert, ever.

Though I decided to forgo using my authentic crimping iron from the 80′s, I did bust out my band buttons straight from 1984, which are older than the babysitter who watched my kids that night.

The actual concert was about as fun as any concert I’ve ever been to. The vibe of the newer Duran2 music is very reminiscent of their old stuff, so even though I didn’t know a lot of the new songs, it was still boogie-worthy. The lady sitting next to me might disagree, however.

All You Need is Now Duran Duran concert tourShe was a definite anomaly. Everyone else was up out of their chairs for the entire show.

Song highlights were Hungry Like the Wolf, Planet Earth, The Reflex, and the encore of Girls on Film. I would’ve liked a few more of their oldies, like New Religion, My Own Way and Save a Prayer, but nevertheless, they sounded great and Simon was a dancing fiend.

To answer the question that is most assuredly on your mind: Yes, Simon is still hot. So is John Taylor  and my fave, Nick Rhodes. They had boundless energy for a bunch of old guys, but took a very-well-masked breather in the middle of the show under the guise of a “tweet break,” in which the audience could tweet and see it scroll on the big jumbo tron.

And HELLO Harrah’s Rincon Casino, nice to meet you! How did I now know that this oasis of fun, is only a mere forty-minute, curvaceous car ride away? What a great venue to see a show and then sneak a little gambling while you’re at it. I was able to put my “sure fire way to make the dealer bust” to the test, and it worked! Well, it worked for a few hands at least and I was able to walk away with more than I started. Score!

Overall, the night gets a 9 out of 10. My friend Benjie and I had a like totally rad time. I’m still not even fully recovered actually (the bartender at the concert was pouring some stiff chardonnay!).

If you have the chance to see Duran Duran in concert, go. They still got it.

Disclosure: I received two complimentary tickets to the show in exchange for a blog post and some tweets. These opinions are my own and I definitely got the better deal out of this bargain. I heart Duran Duran forever.

How fun! It kinda makes me feel old to think the bands we grew up with are doing these old timer tours – I don’t mean that in a bad way – just we’re not all teeny boppers or twenty somethings – but thank God we can still go to catch a concert with music we recognize!

Great post. That anomaly next to you is hilarious.. . Wish we could have had a big girl sleep over afterwards, but over a 1000 photos needed to be downloaded and then uploaded. The clock was ticking. Next time! You and Benji looked fab.

That was SOOO much fun Mar! THANK YOU for the invite! Yes, I don’t think the bartender did us any favors with the keg cups of chardonnay. Perhaps that’s what happened to our friend in the seat next door! XO!
