Yesterday, in the car, in between belting out our two newest favorite songs, Stereo Hearts and Hello, Lily asked me, in her sweetest voice possible,
“Mom, so when you turn, like, five and half, or three and a half, do you get to have a party?”
So innocent and sweet, yet also so calculated. I could see her wheels spinning behind that naive façade, When can I have another party, cake and presents, Mom?
I smiled and told her no, “We don’t celebrate half birthdays, sweetie.”
I hope I didn’t sound too patronizing, because this morning I realized, that today is my 39 and 7/12 birthday, and I feel like throwing a party! Yep, today is exactly five months from my fortieth birthday and I’m thinking that celebrating every month, every day in fact, from now until then, sounds perfectly acceptable. Don’t you?
I mean forty is a big deal. At least I thought so until I talked to my mom and I said, “Mom, can you believe I’m turning forty?” and she replied with, “Well, I’m turning eighty!” Touché, mom, touché.
Anyway, back to me. I am warning my readers now that the next five months will have periodic shout-outs to my impending rite of old lady passage. I’ve already started writing my post for the actual big day. Is that weird?
Okay, good, I didn’t think so.
Not only do I have the big 4-0 looming ahead of me, but so do all my friends and my hubby. Tomorrow I will be attending the first of five fortieth birthday parties in less than two months. Holy shit! It’s like the late 90’s when all of my friends were getting married and there was a wedding, shower or bachelorette party every weekend. Positive note: I’ll be earning a lot of credit card points via all the charging I’ll be doing.
To kick start your weekend, check out this video from the song I mentioned above, Stereo Hearts, by Gym Class Heroes, featuring Adam Levine. It’s an throwback 80’s love song and makes me feel young again. Also, I want this girl’s body for my fortieth. Too much to ask?
Happy 39 7/12 birthday to me and Happy Friday to you!
