5 things you must do in las vegas

My trip to Vegas two weeks ago for my husband’s 40th birthday was a blast. Besides pushing my luck on Deuces are Wild slots and trying to make the dealer bust at black jack by yelling “Everyone’s a winner!” (which I did, by the way), I also discovered a few other “Must Do’s” while in Vegas.

Five Must Dos in Vegas

1) Love by Cirque Du Soleil– I’ve had the theory that, “once you see one cirque show, you’ve seen ‘em all.” Not the case, my friends, not the case. The Cirque phenomenon called Love, featuring all music from the legendary Beatles, was one of the best live shows I’ve seen. Everything from the music (I am a die hard Beatles fan, so of course I loved the music), to the choreography, the set and the overall visual imagery was out of this world. This is a MUST see!

2) Bellagio Sportsbook – If you like sports and/or men, this is the place to be. I must’ve been one of only five women in a sea of men, which doesn’t matter for me since I’m married, but if you’re single, this is the place to be. I liked it more because I love to wager, I love sports and I love having servers bringing me cocktails. Win-win-win situation. We picked the Bellagio Sportsbook not knowing they had the best Bloody Mary’s in NV, but I think any hotel’s sportsbook will do.

3)  The Foundation Room – I don’t care who you have to sleep with to get your name on the list at this place, since it’s a members only club, but do it, and get your name on the list. Or you can just have a good mom blogger friend who is a member and is cool enough to put you on the list. Or you can pay membership yourself, whatever, just go. The Foundation Room is a VIP members only club that is part of the House of Blues in nine different cities including Atlantic City, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and New Orleans.

I was in pop music heaven, though there was also a side room with a DJ spinning classic hip hop which was fun too. I was also in celebrity star sighting heaven with Tony Soprano, but as I mentioned before I was too chicken shit to say hi. The best thing about The Foundation Room, Las Vegas, is the view of the entire city. Though it was absolutely freezing outside, we spent a lot of time out there, huddled under the heat lamps, just so we could see the view. Oh, and there might have been some cigar smoking (hubs turned 40, what do you expect?).

4) Jaleo Restaurant – One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time, this Spanish style tapas restaurant located inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel serves top-notch food via top-notch service. It is just one of the restaurants by world-famous chef, Jose Andres’, and it will not disappoint. There is something on the menu for everyone, whether you’re a vegetarian, meat lover, or fried-food fiend, and since all the menu items are all tapas, the dishes come in small portions and are served family style. We tasted fifteen different dishes between six of us, all of which were to die for. Excuse me for a second while I wipe the saliva off my keyboard just from thinking about that meal.

With a trendy, club-like feel, it is not a place to go for a quiet romantic meal, but rather a fun place to go before heading out for the night, to the Foundation Room for example.

5) Super Secret Pizza place at Cosmopolitan – I must admit, I didn’t actually eat this pizza, but from what I’ve heard and read, this place is a must visit, or should I say, a must find. Apparently there is no signage for this place, you just need to know where it is (hint, it’s very near another place I mentioned above). According to Steve’s friends who went at 4:30 am, it was “the best pizza in the world,” but according to some friends who went during the day (aka not drunk or in a Vegas daze) said it was a decent, while a bit over-priced slice of pizza. BUT, the thing about this pizza is the story attached to it. I have two girlfriends who could not wait to tell me the story of how they stumbled around the 3rd floor of the Cosmopolitan at 5:00am, when no one was around, looking for this place.  So, it’s all part of the experience. Considering how much I love pizza, I might have to go back just to try it.

So, one of those two stumbling girls looking for pizza was me, and the ‘hunt’ for this pizza place is now one of my favorite Vegas memories. I think the pizza was good….it was 5:00 AM and I had already consumed way too many libations by the time we finally found it. By the way, the rooms at the Cosmopolitan are amazing, in fact everything about the Cosmopolitan is amazing – the club, the restaurants, conference center, all the little ‘secret’ places…. we stayed there for a weekend and really enjoyed!
