I have a new online obsession. It’s an App called Draw Something and it’s drawsome! (I didn’t make that up, they say it in the game when you get one right).
Draw Something is similar to Pictionary but there is no time limit when you’re drawing and the creators of the game have a sense of humor so you might get words like poop, fart or earwax.
Basically, when it’s your turn, you are given three words to chose from, with varying degree of difficulty, each worth either one, two, or three “coins”. You use the coins to buy privileges in the game like using more extensive color palettes and getting more chances to eliminate possible letters when it’s your turn to guess.
You have as much time as you want to draw and you can erase or start over as many times as you need too.
I am truly terrible at drawing, as demonstrated by this example:
Only I could make a pregnant lady look ugly, but, if you use these tips below, you’ll totally be able to kick ass in this game.
My tips for playing Draw Something:
1) Use Stick Figures.
They are universal, so if you are as terrible at drawing as I am, somehow your partner can still guess what you are drawing. Like this time that I drew Katniss from The Hunger Games.
Though my stick figure was mighty impressive, if I hadn’t written “District 12,” she may not have gotten it, which leads me to my next tip . . .
2) Use words!
For example, in this drawing of a stick figure Darth Vader, I was pretty sure my buddy Dan would get it, but just in case, I wrote out DV’s famous quote (still not sure if that is considered cheating, but I think all is fair game in virtual Pictionary!).
Or like the time that my friend, Guilty Squid tried to draw a Furby and then just gave up.
Thank God she did. I would NEVER have gotten Furby!
3) Use the Web!
Chances are you’ll have some other piece of technology laying in case you need to Google what something looks like.
I had to look up what the Steelers logo is.
I also had to remind myself what a boom box looks like (I blame the age on that one!).
Yes, it’s a bit of a time suck, but it sure brought me a lot of joy last week when one of my kids had a wicked flu from hell and my other one ended up in the ER with a gash under her eye.
If you love to draw and/or laugh, this is the game for you!

Well, I had to Google who played in Superbowl 2011 to even make a guess!
Wendy, I was wondering if you had to look that up.
I can’t draw but I love to laugh and this game looks awesome.
I am going to add this to my ever growing list of why I need an iPhone.
Jen, YES, you need an iPhone. But you also need an iPad because this game is a liitte hard to play on the iPhone screen. : )
Hilarious! I love that game too! I have taken to playing it on the ipad vs the iphone so my fat fingers can draw better!
I am so addicted to this game. SO ADDICTED.
Cracking up! I so don’t have time for a game. If you find out that I download this, please yell at me and tell me to delete it. It would suck me in!
can i play on a Droid?
Char, I’m not sure. It’s best on the iPad because you have to draw with your finger and there is not very much space to on a phone screen.
…..I’m addicted now. Thanks for that. Bella likes to play so some of my drawings may come from her….and she is a better at drawing than me!!
I love this game! I spent way too much time playing!!!

Love this game, but nobody played it.
