It’s no secret that I am a bit obsessed with TV. So obsessed that I sometimes fantasize that I am friends with the characters of the shows, like for example, the zany crew of Will & Grace, I just know we would all be besties and drunk all the time. Or the kids of GLEE, oh how I wish I could burst out into song with them in the middle of the cafeteria.
On a few occasions, three in fact, the fantasizing has gone past the platonic level (married women are allowed to have a list, everyone knows this). So here are my Three “Favorite” Male TV Characters of All Time (aka MTVCILF):
Mr. Big – Despite his arrogance and questionable attitude towards relationships, Carrie Bradshaw’s on-again/off-again beyond-charming love interest on Sex in the City, John James “Mr. Big” Preston played by Chris Noth, was alluring in his stand-offishness and proof that girls like a challenge.
Coach Eric Taylor – The ball-cap wearing, lip-pursing coach of the Dillon Panthers on NBC’s now-canceled show, Friday Night Lights, made women across America rah rah like a cheerleader, both on and off the field. There’s just something about the way he could fire up a team, motivate his players, and slyly seduce his wife with just one glance. And oh, the way he could apologize. No one will ever do it better. If you didn’t watch that show when it originally aired, I highly recommend renting it. You won’t be sorry.
Special Agent Dale Cooper - The popularity of the bizarre cult classic, Twin Peaks, hinged on not only the biggest question of 1990, “Who killed Laura Palmer,” but also on the clever, endearing characters created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, most notably, the lead character, Special Agent Dale Cooper played by Kyle Maclaclan. His dry humor, his innate ability to sense danger, his caring for all creatures great and small (with logs or without), and his love of damn good coffee won him a place in my heart forever.
