On Friday I’ll be back on Fox 5 news with my annual Halloween costume segment. This year we are featuring all DIY costumes based on popular kids’ TV and film characters. There will be a range of uber easy to crazy hard and a few in between.
For a quick teaser, here are a few of the Disney themed costumes that we will be highlighting:
Doc McStuffins:
I am madly in love with this cartoon, and so are my girls, so I was thrilled when Lily told me that she wanted to be Doc for Halloween. I’ve know for several months now that she wanted to be Doc so whenever we were out clothes shopping I just kept my eyes open for the types of clothes Doc wears and I would buy them along the way. The only items I had to especially make or buy were:
1) The purple polka dotted pants - For these I hand-painted a pair of purple leggings that we already had at the house, and used a POTATO to make the perfect circles. I know, genius! (Got the idea from my friend Benjie, I can’t take credit).
In some instances, I had to go back with a paint brush to fill in the circles, but overall the potato worked out great!
2) Book of Boo Boos – I bought a purple notebook from Target for $2.00 and printed out the downloadable pages from the Disney website.
3) Headband – I stuck some felt sticky flowers from Michaels on a sparkly headband, both of which we already had at the house.
I purchased the lab coat at Party City for $16 and I bought the Doctor kit at Toys ‘R’ Us for $19.99 because she wanted that as a toy to play with anyway. Oh, I also bought some dark spray for her hair since Doc is a few shades darker than Lil.
Izzy Costume from Jake and the Neverland Pirates- I either had all of these items or bought them at Target or The Rack. In total I spent less than $25.00. Easy, peasy!
Boo from Monsters Inc - For this adorable costume, my neighbor Lindsay used pipe cleaners and styrofoam balls for the eyes and felt for teeth from Michael’s and a mop for the hair. She cut strips apart, then tied them around the headband.
