Oh my little love bug, how is it that you are starting Kindergarten today? It was literally yesterday that I walking around with you a sling, trying to get you to say single syllable words like car and truck, and hoping that you would make it through an afternoon without blowing out your diaper. Now, you are a sassy, bright, articulate five year old who will be walking into your Kindergarten classroom this afternoon with confidence and charisma, as I sit back, wipe the tears, and wonder what happened to my little baby girl.
Though you will be one of the youngest in your class, I’m sure, after watching your sister conquer Kinder just last year, you will be able to handle whatever comes your way with grace and maturity.
I am in awe of you every day, Lexi Mae, just watching you analyze situations, make up words to songs, boogie to the music, even if it’s only in your mind, and find new ways to be creative. I can’t wait to watch you learn and grow with all of the new things Mrs. Estrada will teach you. Your spunk and tenacity will come in handy this year, no doubt, as will your loving, kind nature.
I love you, Lexi Loo, and am so excited for this new chapter to begin.
Go get ‘em, girl!
With all my love,
Part 1 was written last year when my older daughter Lily went to Kindergarten for the first time. I cried when I re-read it, thinking just how quickly time flies.
